Dreamsville
Dreamsville
Took the opportunity this evening to also listen to another album I bought recently, this time off of eBay, Lola Albright’s 1959 record Dreamsville.

If you have watched the old TV show Peter Gunn you know who Lola Albright is, she played jazz singer (and Gunn’s girlfriend) Edie Hart.
You would also know she’s a hell of a singer and the selection of tunes Dreamsville works well for her style of singing. The orchestra was led by Henry Mancini who did the music for Peter Gunn so what could possibly be wrong?
The only ding I have against this album is the use of reverb on Albright’s voice. I assume it’s an echo chamber, but it could have been a plate reverb since those were commercially available starting in 1957, a couple years before the release of this album. Either way it was overdone and not a plus for the record.
The record itself is in great shape. It’s amazing to me that I’m holding something in my hands that is almost 70 years old and it still sounds good.
